Derek, Dustin, and I had the opportunity to volunteer at Ironman Florida this year. It was a super long day, but really an unbelievable experience. The triathlon is a grueling 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run all in one day. The 2600+ athletes entered the Gulf at 7:00 am. A cold front had just come through, and the temps were in the 30's when the race started. The race officially ended at midnight. The ripples in the water are the swimmers.
We worked in the transition tents, helping the athletes change clothes between events. These are the bags which had to be QUICKLY given to athletes as they entered transition. Talk about a logistical nightmare!
There was a nice dinner a few days later. We got lots of freebies from sponsors. (I think we have a year supply of altoids and disposable razors!)
